Thursday Thirteen!

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

The kids went back to school yesterday, so when they came home, I got homework. I joke with the kids that this is the only day of the school year when they dont get any homework, but I do. Today, is dedicated to the first day of School!

1. I dropped the Eldest off for her first day of 8th grade.

2. Came home and fed Youngest breakfast, fixed his lunch and then dropped him off at school

3. Ah, peace and quiet!…now what to do with all this free time? well, I was going to sleep for a little bit…but that didnt happen, till later on.

4. I got a phone call from the lady at the first house that we had looked at. She hasnt found anyone to rent to and is reconsidering up for her house. We will hopefully find out soon what she is going to do

5. I did end up taking a short nap, but then had plenty of other “housework” to do

6. I finished with a little time to spare, sat for a few and then headed to get Eldest from school.

7. Dropped her off and went to get youngest, he was all excited. and very hyper

8. On the way home he told me that he got a time-out at school for trying to be a “rock star” in music class. But that wasnt all, at the end of his time-out, he told his teacher he wanted another one?!?

9. Now I have to consider talking with his teacher about his behavior… :S

10. I got home and got straight to work on the, Emergency contact forms, library permission slip, lunch forms….first for Eldest, then for Youngest.

11. Half way through the Youngest, I figured out that I had put the wrong phone number on the forms…thank goodness for whiteout

12. I put all the forms in the correct folders and thought that I was done…

13. But alas, while I took Eldest to Young Womens this evening, Youngest took all of his colored pencils out, and sharpened them…all over the floor. I now wish I hadnt gotten the colored pencils with the little sharpener for free

Well, that is my interesting first day of school. How was yours? (I know some kids started a long time ago…and some kids havent gone back yet, but please share)

I know I promised horses, and I will be getting those pictures, hopefully next week :)

Wrapping up

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

…the school year!

9 school days left, two and a half weeks, and the kids will be out for the year. This week is going to be busy, with LaCrosse games on Monday, and Tuesday or Wednesday. My Youngest will have “field day” on Thursday.

This summer we will all be home on Fridays, so we are planning to take day trips to the local places, such as Mystic Aquarium, Old Sturbridge Village, and others. We will be heading out for the only major trip, at the end of July.

Much to look forward too :)

Tomorrow, I have asked Eldest to help me with the Thursday Thirteen. I asked her to think of 13 of her favorite things. Please come back to see what she thinks of

New Dinosaur Discovered

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

This post is for my daughter, who has wanted to be a paleontologist since she was three (she is almost 13 now).

Largest-known meat-eating dinosaur discovered by Canadian paleontologist

EDMONTON (CP) - One hundred million years ago, in what is now Argentina, a carnivore larger than Tyrannosaurus rex used its scissor-like teeth to hunt some of the biggest dinosaurs that ever lived.

Mapusaurus roseae is thought to have weighed six tonnes and reached 12 to 13 metres in length at maturity. That’s longer than most city buses.

The new dinosaur is one of a group of gigantic carnivores that includes the Giganotosaurus, which previously trumped the T. rex as the largest known meat-eater.

Read More Here (link is also to the source of above material)

I called my daughter when I saw this story on the news tonight. She was so excited, and hopes that someday she can be part of a group that discovers a new dinosaur.

Finished Blanket ~ Dead Batteries

Monday, March 20th, 2006

As the heading of this post says, I have finished another blanket. This one will be a gift to one of the new moms in my church. I took a picture just a minute ago, but…the batteries in the camera need to be recharged. So, I will get to share that with everyone tomorrow.

Today was a good day for my family to recharge as well. I have had a horrid migraine all day and spent much of the day trying to sleep through it. Eldest child has a nasty cold/cough/sore throat, and the boys, just had a quiet day at home. But tomorrow is back to school/work.

I was looking at this site just a little bit ago, when I realized that I forgot my Thursday Thirteen…so this week I will work on a really good list of things and have it posted on time :) Sorry to those who dropped by and couldnt find my Thursday post.

Cool Kids

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

I have a really cute video clip of my sons school presentation…but I cant get my site to load the clip. And, as it turns out it is big…So I will share one of the digital pics instead, with a little arrow pointing to my littlest one.

ah, one day I will figure this whole thing out and get the little clip for everyone to see, it is really cute :) Speaking of cute, I was one of the ’seamstresses’ that helped make the little girls skirts.

Quarantined

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

OK, that might be a little melo-dramatic, but we have a new ‘bug’ going around the house. Yesterday, my littlest one, started showing signs of pinkeye. It has spread to my DH, who also apparently has caught a cold as well.

Ah, I do love flu season…not.

Ah, peace and…

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

quiet?

Hopefully, today will be. Yesterdays snow kept the kids at home. With the snow/sleet/rain, I couldn’t even send the kids out to ‘play’. I would love to say how difficult it is when the kids are home, but in reality, my daughter gets most of the credit for entertaining her brother during the morning. She did get a break and visited with a friend in the afternoon, while I played a card game, tried to make bionicles with spare parts, watched Mulan…and other really exciting things.

I am not sure what today will hold. I was supposed to help my sons teacher yesterday and I am not sure if that is now moved to today or not. I guess I will find out in the morning. I am feeling better, so that is good.

But for now (2:15am) it is time for me to get to sleep…I cant stop yawning…

Oh! What a week…

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

…and it is not over yet!

Last week I came down with a sore throat, then hubby got it (Saturday), then my daughter got it(Monday). So, after shuttling everyone to the doctors, waiting for tests and filling perscriptions…we finally found out, that we all have Strep Throat! How’s that for a pain in the neck?

Kids have been home, hubbys been home, so we haven’t had to put gas in the cars (yeah! saving $$$). Though, I managed to run out of gas taking my kids to the doctors today, :| thankfully hubby was home to save the day, and brought the gas can. We have been living on “non-scratchy foods”…well at least that narrows down the menu of what is for dinner!

Oh, and to add a little drama to this whole week…on Tuesday, my son was cleaning his room and dropped his porcelain piggy bank. He was so upset! So, we had to run off to the store and get a new one…the new one is plastic (and an elephant)! At least I dont have to worry about him dropping it.

We are expecting my daughters Nona to visit us on Saturday…so I also have alot of cleaning (yeah, right) to do before they arrive.

Plans that I had made for earlier in the week were all put on hold, and I have 2 days to do most of the stuff now. So, tomorrow, I get to drive up to Mass. for an errand, on my way I have to pay the cable bill…
