CT Tornado 2009

Yesterday was scary…to say the least. Around 4pm the sky became black and hail, just short of golf ball size started pounding the roof. Power went out several times before giving up completely. Around the neighborhood, several large trees lost limbs, or just plain lost to the power of the storm. It is thought that we took micro bursts around my house, but nearby, it is now confirmed that a tornado did hit.

A powerful storm with winds gusting to 85-100 mph roared through Wethersfield Friday afternoon and left the historic section of town covered with downed trees and power lines. This antique home, at the corner of Church and Garden streets, was split in two by a massive tree that had been uprooted by the storm. In photo, the homeowners, at left, get hugs from neighbors. We were really lucky, we lost power for about 8 hours. There are a few houses nearby that have no power still and a few cars that are in need of visits from the insurance companies (one right around the corner from the house). Thankfully we dont get this sort of weather often…

hey neighbor. I was close enough to feel the effects, far enough away to avoid a direct hit. Oddly, it should have hit here as well…as it hit Farmington, skipped me and then hit Whethersfield.
