Lewis the cat~sentenced to inside life

The story…

“To the delight of animal lovers who traveled to Bridgeport Superior Court from as far away as Utah and Florida, Superior Court Judge Patrick Carroll III declined Tuesday to order Lewis, the celebrity serial-scratching cat, euthanized.

Instead, he placed owner Ruth Cisero in a program that will erase a reckless endangerment charge if she completes two years probation and 50 hours of community service.

Under the terms of that probation, Lewis must abide by a previous restraining order that prevents him from leaving Cisero’s Fairfield home. If he does, the charge against Cisero will be reinstated. She could face up to six months in prison, and Lewis could again face death.

“There are no exceptions,” Carroll warned. “None.”

Lewis the cat, the “attack cat” from Connecticut, has been spared being put to sleep…but he does have to stay inside. I think that the owner really should have known to do this, when she first heard of her cats antics. I do believe that she should be held accountable. She has said that she has tried “kitty prozac” but if she knew that the attacks were happening she should have kept him inside. Lots of cats are inside cats, and though some escape (like my Socks) every once and a while, it isnt really that difficult to keep control over them. I dont blame Socks for getting out. If he gets out, someone left the door open or gave him the opportunity to get out the door. That would be our fault. If Lewis gets out, then, as the judge states, the owner will be held accountable.

I agree! Besides, indoor cats lead much better lives (according to my vet)

I agree, though I grew up with cats that were allowed inside and outside when the wanted.

I am really glad that the cat wasn’t put to sleep. I do agree that the owner should have started keeping him inside before it got to this point, though. It’s very dangerous outside for cats, anyway. It adds years to their lives to keep them inside. Some cats will immediately escape upon first opportunity, but my cats are indoor cats and generally don’t try to get out. One time when they did, they didn’t go far before getting too scared and running back!

I know to well about cats and the things they can get from being outside. All three of my little ones are FIV+, which they probably got because they were outside. It is sad but true, If my cats get out (Socks is the only one to try, thankfully) they stand a huge chance of getting hurt or sick
